Arabic & Halal Dining in China
A comprehensive guide to Arabic, Middle Eastern, and halal-certified dining across China's major cities. From Guangzhou's authentic Yemeni restaurants to Beijing's Muslim quarter street food.
How to Find Halal Food in China
Arabic on Dianping
Search 清真餐厅 (halal restaurant) or 阿拉伯餐厅 (Arabic restaurant) on Dianping (大众点评) — China's Yelp. Filter by your city. User reviews include photos of the 清真 certificate. Available on WeChat mini-program.
Search on Amap
Open Amap and search 清真 near your location. Drops pins for all halal-certified restaurants nearby. Includes hours, photos, and navigation. The fastest way to find halal food anywhere in China.
Meituan Delivery
Meituan and Ele.me both allow filtering delivery restaurants by 清真. In major cities, multiple halal restaurants offer delivery. Useful when you don't want to go out or can't find nearby options.
Hotel Concierge
In major international hotels, the concierge can recommend halal restaurants. In Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai, this is now a standard request. Specify Arabic-style (阿拉伯风味) vs Chinese Muslim halal (清真).
Guangzhou — Best City for Arabic Dining
Xiaobei Road (小北路)
The core of Guangzhou's Arab quarter. Dozens of restaurants serving Yemeni mandi, Egyptian koshari, Lebanese mezze, Moroccan tagine, and more. Arabic signage everywhere. Best visited 12pm–2pm and 7pm–11pm.
Yemeni Rice Houses
Guangzhou has the world's largest concentration of Yemeni restaurants outside Yemen. Whole roasted lamb over saffron rice (مندي), slow-cooked stew (فهسة), and Yemeni flatbreads. Budget ¥50–80 per person for a feast.
Dengfeng Area
Adjacent to Xiaobei, Dengfeng has more halal options including Somali, Nigerian, and Pakistani restaurants serving the African-Arab-South Asian trading community. Less touristy, very authentic.
Huanshi West Road
Several Lebanese and Syrian restaurants on and around Huanshi West Road. More upscale than Xiaobei options, with private dining rooms suitable for business entertainment. Accepts WeChat Pay and some cards.
Beijing Halal & Arabic Dining
Niujie Street (牛街)
Beijing's 1,000-year-old Muslim quarter. Chinese Muslim (Hui) street food — lamb skewers, sesame flatbreads (烧饼), beef offal soup, and Muslim snacks. Authentic, affordable, and a genuine local experience.
Sanlitun Embassy Area
Sanlitun has a cluster of Arabic and Lebanese restaurants near the Arab embassies. Catering to diplomats and expats. More expensive than Guangzhou options but convenient for central Beijing visitors.
Xinjiang Restaurants
Widespread across Beijing. Lamb noodles (新疆拌面), pilaf (抓饭), naan (馕), and grilled skewers (烤肉). Search 新疆餐厅 on Amap. The Weigongcun (魏公村) area near the university district has several good options.
Shanghai Halal & Arabic Dining
Jing'an District Arabic
Several Arabic and Lebanese restaurants in Jing'an serve the Middle Eastern business and diplomatic community. Higher price point but good quality. Convenient for visitors staying in Jing'an hotels.
Shanghai Xiaobei-Style
Shanghai lacks a dedicated Arab quarter like Guangzhou, but Xinjiang-style halal restaurants are widely distributed. Search 清真 on Amap for your neighbourhood. Quality and authenticity vary.
